Discussion Programme on Sustainability of MRC in Terhathum

"Platform on Migration and Development" program has been jointly organized by Rural Enterprises and Remittances Project (RERP) and Myanglung Municipality at Myanglung, Terhathum on 16th September 2022. The objectives of the program are; to find out the ways to effective services of MRC and to make sustainable Migrants Resource Center (MRC) through discussion in the program, and to inform on MRC operation guidelines and reintegration directives of the Nepal Government, and realize the obligations of local levels.   

Mayor, Vice Mayor, Chief Administration Officer, Employment Coordinator, and Municipality personnel from 3 Local Governments (Myanglung Municipality, Phedap Rural Municipality, and Chhathar Rural Municipality), Chief District Officer (CDO), Deputy Superintended of Police (DSP)  of Terhathum District participated in the program.

Mr. Jagadish Subedi, Social Development officer of Myanglug Municipality made a welcome speech to all guests and participants of the program. Mr. Raju Gadtaula, Economic Inclusion Officer of RERP initiated the program by stating the objective of the PMD program and presenting the introduction and achievements of RERP. Ms. Ganga Berdewa, Information Assistant of MRC Terhathum highlighted the status of foreign employment of Terhathum District, provide services and achievements of MRC, and presented the way forward to making sustainable MRC. Mr. Jiban Shrestha, Migration Coordinator of RERP made the last presentation, elucidating that migration issues are the first the obligation of the local governments to make safe and choice migration. He presented the policy framework of migration and reintegration of migrants returnees regarding to local levels. He added that RERP supported to develop  migration and reintegration policy and MRC operation guidelines fo Myanglung Municipality.

 

Ms. Suita Pahim, Deputy Chairperson of Phedap Rural Municipality asked how can support MRC in addressing the issues of migrants and it's victims. The discussion was focused on the way out for the sustainability of MRC even the phaseout of RERP. CDO of Terthum district Mr. Mohan Prasad Aryal describes the need for MRC to avoid fraud during foreign employment and to rescue and support migrants, and victims. He added that local governments should be supported to operate and effectiveness of MRC by providing financial support and expressed his commitment to making coordination among six local governments including the ward levels of Terthum district for sustainable MRC. Mr. Sanjaya Tumbahamfe, Mayor of Myanulung Municipality and Chairperson of the PMD program described the initial stage of MRC, its operation modality to sustainability, and thanked RERP that the great support to MRC which take place ineffective public service center. Mr. Tumbahamfe requested to local government from Terhathum district to collaborate with Myanglung Municipality for the sustainable operation of MRC. At last, he concluded the PMD program by thanking the participants and stating the efforts of Myanglung Municipality to effective and sustainable MRC in collaborative efforts of all local government and District Administration Office of Terhathum district.
