तारा देविको बाख्रा पालन व्यावसायबाट आम्दानीमा बृद्धि हुनुको साथै व्यावसायिक प्रवर्द्दन भयो

Rural Enterprises and Remittances Project (RERP) “Samriddhi” in Lakure-3, Dhankuta formed “Lakure goat farmer group. Taradevi Newar a young lady, Thirty-three-year-old a mother of two kids is also one of them. For the past five years, Tara is gradually learning the benefit of commercial farming instead of traditional and has started to make goat rearing her source of livelihood. The RER Project has helped the small-scale goat farmers group member to work collectively along with Taradevi in the area who were scattered before.

Tara tells ─ “I see prospect in goat rearing. I along with my group members now are learning ideas that I hadn’t about goat rearing. Particularly working together with a group member has encouraged me”. As an early married person Tara was dependent on her husband’s earning. But after starting the small-scale goat rearing agriculture farm, she feels independent and financially supporting her family. The Lakure Goat Farmers Group are receiving financial grant from the project. From the RER Project grant support the group members have received technical trainings on how to improve the shed, construct modern manure, grass farming together with breed improvement.

Earlier in the village in Lakure there was door to door selling practice of live goat in an achoc basis. After the intervention of program goat farmers now are assured in the forward market linkage with a trader within the district. This has been accelerated by the project as B2B Linkage which benefited the group to settle their initial market problem. Now the traders are visiting farmers group and selling goats practicing the weighing system. This has also enabled farmers for collective marketing and bargaining capacity. Tara including other group members are encouraged to increase their production because of the profits from commercial goat rearing.

Additionally, the financial linkage program from the project have helped farmer groups member to be linked with rural finance service provider. Tara was also able to get a loan amounting to NRS 2,00,000 from Janajyoti Cooperative at the minimum interest rate of 9% per annum. With this investment she has been able to buy more goats, construct modern sheds and plant different breeds of grasses. Initially she used to own 10 goats now she has 15 goats on her farm. In contrast with the start-up of a business by herself and after the intervention of the project she now has planned to increase production throughout the years and sustainably commercialize her business by expanding numbers of goat and farming area.

Tara is also treasure of the goat farmers group. By involving in the project formed group she is developing her leadership aptitudes.  Gratified and liable with her duties and responsibilities in the group Tara feels accountable for maintaining all the financial records of the group.
