Self-employed also earning more

Mahesh Mahato belongs to a village near Mirchiya Municipality. His family is dependent on him economically. He used to work as a helper in Arc welding workshop at Mirchiya. He is a 27 year old young and energetic youth. He was engaged in welding job for two years. Since, his earning was not sufficient and was having difficulty in eyes due to the electric spark coming out of Arc. He decided to change the job with better earning and demand in the market. At same time, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies commenced Samriddhi Project at province 1 and 2. As, one of the components of project deals with decent jobs it provides various on the job training. Mahesh came to know about this on job training from his friend. He filled application for taking building electrician training and cleared the interview. On 15th May short term vocational training started in Lahan Municipality. Although he was from Mirchiya with an intension to learn more he shifted to Lahan.

The training was held by Gandaki Polytechnic Institute in technical support of HELVETAS for free of cost. On 15th May, he received short orientation of the program. He decided to settle in Lahan for next 65 days during the training period.

 Mahesh mentions, “During our onsite training, I earned fifteen thousand and it build up my confidence”.  Mahesh is working with his teacher trainer till date. His trainer finds task for his team and they move accordingly. Mahesh believes working with his trainer helps to sharpen his skills and good command is received. His team visited to Golchari, Balanseer electricity maintenance from the reference of his trainer. Similarly, his team gets petite contract for piping the house and general appliance set up such as Ceiling fan, Inverter, LED light fitting and many more.

Mahesh told, “I am lucky because I have chance to get self-employed now. When I was helper, I used to earn seven thousand per month. After acquiring this training I have started earning quite more than previous job”.

Till date Mahesh has no plans to move abroad. He works in a team of four people in miniature contracts. He wishes to accomplish big real estate contract in the near future.
